OVERVIEW:
This is a new solo show written and performed by Daniel Beaty. It tells the story of six interconnected African American males ranging from 10 to 60—one per decade—as they and the people who love and support them venture through the night of events that changes these characters' lives forever. With a blend of drama, humor, poetry, and music, Beaty inhabits each character through a seamless transformation in his body language, voice and emotional intention that credibly brings each character to life. Beaty says: "My hope for Through the Night is that Black men will feel their stories are being told in a manner that honors and challenges them and that others will have more compassion and understanding of the complexities facing the Black male in America. |
